Back to business! it appears I've been neglecting my blog big time. Almost 3 months infact- where did the time go?! Soooooo...the big question is have I lost weight? Well, yes AND no. I have but it was lbs I'd put back on over the first few months of 2013...I think I'm 3-4 lbs off being back to my lowest weight from back in Oct/Nov of last year. So it's finally starting to go in the right direction. I've been seeing my HCA more regularly too which has been good for me knowing that I'll be weighed every week by someone else. I'm back to using myfitnesspal. Apparently I've "logged in for 20 days in a row"- Yay- go me!! My husband is also using it so that's encouraging me to keep it up. I've also been going to the gym a bit more and started swimming in the last week, think today was the 3rd time this week- I'm definitely feeling better for it!

I've noticed a pattern of when I'm comfort eating though and it's just out of boredom. My husband has been working odd hours over the last week and a bit, so he doesn't get home until 11-12 at night and I end up feeling a bit at a loss of what to do. So I think it's time I set myself another mini task, maybe the 30 day Ab Challenge seeing as I've completed the 30 day Squat challenge I saw on the lovely Bailey's blog. Boy was that tough but I'm quite chuffed with myself for completing it despite my dodgy knee.

Here's a few pics of some notable things I've done exercise wise in the last couple of months:

This was the longest solid workout I've done on one machine (sorry it's fuzzy, I probably had the shakes after doing it! haha)

An empty gym just how I like it :)

I managed to jog/run for a full 30 minutes, I was even able to catch my breath by reducing my speed to a jog (not a walking pace, which I usually do). This felt like such an achievement for me...I've not tried to do it again so it may be a fluke! I need to buck up the courage to prove it wasn't!! And I've also done a mile in the quickest time yet, there's still plenty to work on but it's a start :)

Venice was lovely...just what we needed! Just can't believe it's been and gone already! Or that the reason we went was to mark our first year of married life...where did those 365 days go?? (and also our 4 year anniversary of being a couple). Although we had to wait a while for our "honeymoon" I'm glad we did, it meant a lot to get away.

I do love a city break. We wandered around the city and ended up down a few dead ends (I think it's a given in Venice that everyone gets a little lost at least a couple of times! Thank God for iphones that's all I can say!haha) We took in the sights, took a gondola ride, went on a day trip by boat to Murano and ate some too much good food! Pizza, pasta, ice-cream, meringues (didn't know that was an Italian thing?)...But yeah you get the picture, I overdid it a wee bit BUT we also did A LOT of walking- that balances it out right??? 





Evidently not...I had worked pretty hard at the gym the week before we left as I expected a gain from being on holiday and needless to say there was one. But once again I'm trying to shift it. I haven't made an appointment to see my HCA yet. Truth is I don't want to go and have an "official" gain- denial much?!... But maybe it's a good thing that I don't want to let her down either. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing this for me and my future but knowing that someone else is rooting for me is an incentive. I want to work hard and hopefully be at least (or most, I suppose) the weight I was before I left to go on holiday- so wish me luck! Again I've noticed the huge impact of not keeping track of my eating, just a week off and all my good efforts go out the window- not anymore!! I'm back to myfitnesspal (MFP). I have to mention aswell, what inspiration I'm getting from instagram at the moment. The constant effort some people make is incredible, and makes me realise how half hearted I am sometimes most of the time. I've also started drinking green tea. Well, like today, I started today! Does anyone else? Do you think you get any benefit from drinking it? I know it's no magic potion but wanted to know if it's any good.

I can't believe this day is here already! In two hours I'll be setting off for London to start our belated Honeymoon/ First Wedding Anniversary trip to Venice! Eeeeeeeekkkk I'm excited!! I think it's nearly 3 years since we went on holiday so we're looking forward to getting away and relaxing for a few days in a different country! No doubt I'll bore you guys with a post all about it sometime next week! :) But for now here's my Friend Makin' Monday post:

Food Questions
1. What did you eat for dinner last night? Veggie fajitas 
2. If you could make one food calorie-free for the next year, What would you choose? crisps (chips). These are what I gave up for lent and I'm still doing well as I've not had any but I do really want some! Gotta stay strong though and prove to myself that I can do it!!
3. How often do you go to the grocery store? We live in the city center so there isn't any large supermarkets nearby so we tend to go food shopping 4-5 times a week. But I would definitely prefer to just do one big shop a week (less chance of my being temped by deals etc)
4. Do you make a list before buying groceries? Sometimes. I think that's something I should do more of actually and try to stick to it. I think I'd benefit health wise and money wise!  
5. List three things that can always be found in your kitchen. Rice crackers, houmous and sweet chili sauce 
6. How often do you clean out your fridge? Just when it needs cleaning really or when it's pretty empty (so much easier not having to move lots of things about)
7. Do you ever use a slow cooker? If so, will you share a recipe? We don't have one but I'd like to invest in one!
8. How often do you try new recipes? Not often enough. I'm vegetarian and tend to stick with what I know, but I would like to be more adventurous in the kitchen, so any good veggie recipes out there, let me know! :)
9. What is the most delicious meal(s) you make? Vegetarian shepherds pie with garlic and sweet potato mash (the shepherds pie has quorn mince in it and I suppose it's a bit like a bolognese as I cook it with tomatoes and red wine) Making myself hungry thinking about it! 
10. Share at least one thing that is currently in your kitchen even though you don’t like it.  My husband likes different flavoured oils so I got him a set for Christmas but one of them is literally the spiciest thing I've ever tasted! I hate hot stuff but even my husband who doesn't hate them quite as much couldn't use it either.

Feeling refreshed

Well today certainly got better as the day went on!

Work was shit to put it bluntly. It's far more stressful than it should be for the type of job it is and I'm left feeling more and more anxious about it, all the time. I know what I need to do but the prospect of finding a new job is equally as daunting...hmmm I'll figure it out another time :-/

Anyhoo, so I had a crappy start to the today then I had a list of jobs to do (including going to the library to print off our boarding passes for our trip to Venice- Eeeekkkk!!!) My list also included going to the gym- I've not had a proper good sesh in far too long... So after deliberating whether to go one way or the other at the traffic lights (home vs gym moment!) I decided on the gym! Then I was faced with climbing the 5 flights of stairs- I really don't get how some days it's a breeze ok and others I just want collapse before I even get through the door!? (Today was one of those days). So when I get in I head to the locker room and sit in a cubicle for a good 5 mins trying to decide if I can be bothered today and although initially unenthusiastic I knew I HAD to...after all I didn't climb those stairs for nothing :) 

I started off on the treadmill and managed 30 mins of intervals, then moved on to some weight training and finished off on the bike.


Totally gross I know, but I like getting my sweat on and I feel like I really earned that t-shirt today! 

So yeah, the reason this day turned out good: I was peddling away on the bike while checking my facebook and happen to see a post from the florist that did my wedding flowers. I should probably give some background here: They had a competition offering free delivery of a £40 bouquet and box of Hebridean chocolates and you guessed it-yours truly won!!! I had to describe why my mam's so special in 5 words only- boy was that tricky- I could write an essay! Anyway, my winning 5 words were "Always there despite the miles". I was so thrilled that they picked me as my mam totally deserves a lovely surprise on Mother's Day this Sunday! 

With all the excitement I realised I was peddling after my timer had stopped recording my calories so I had to reset the bike so as to ensure I reached my goal of burning 500 calories at the gym. 

Then to top my night off I've been talking to a friend I've not seen in a year about meeting up soon!! Tomorrows plan is to go swimming with Rosie and run a couple of errands. Oh, and I also have tomorrow off work so win-win! :)

Sooooo I turned 24 last Friday! No offense is meant by this to anyone whatsoever but I really feel like 24 is a proper grown up age, like I'm not in the "early 20's" category anymore (don't worry I'm not having a mid-20's life crisis!) I think it's a bit hard to accept because in my head I really think I'm still like 19. 
Anyhoo, my birthday was so much fun. I went home to Scotland for a couple of days before the big day and spent time with my family. I went for a lovely Turkish meal with my parents and my little sister and it was so nice to have some interesting and not so typical veggie options to chose from. Then I made the mammoth 12 hour bus and train journey back to Notts in time for my actual birthday. I got some lovely gifts including this beautiful weekend bag from my parents and these super cute cushions from my little sister (I've realised I keep saying little sister- she'll be 23 this year but she'll always be my little sister) :)

So on Friday I went out with some friends to celebrate. We started the night at our flat where had cake and champagne amongst other drinks- oh dear, hindsight and all that.... Then we went to my favourite cocktail bar in time for happy hour and on to my favourite bar/club, where my friends boyfriend just so happens to be manager so a few doubles instead of singles etc may have gone down nicely (at the time, not the next day...)

I have to say I had a great time but I'm realising that doing anything out of my normal daily routines really throws me health/fitness wise. I steer off the right path very easily, eg. I missed a couple of days on myfitnesspal. I have started again but it's just little things like this that need I to control better and not let slip. Speaking of control...I went to my second Abs Class tonight- and man do I feel it! In parts I couldn't control myself shaking with working so hard. I have to be 100% honest and say I felt really sorry for myself last week. Yes, I know it was the first class and all but I wanted so much to be able to do all the exercises and I couldn't. Simple as. I learnt that I can plank for 40secs but side planks for your obliques are killer!!! I couldn't do them or all the way up sit ups. I'm kind of surprised how sad it made me, I think it must be because it's realisation of how far I've still to go. I did think twice about signing up for this weeks class as I have a tendency to give up when things get hard, I'm ashamed to say or maybe I should say I USED to! Because I did go back today and I'm signed up for next week too, which I know is positive but I just suck at not being good at stuff! haha

 Almost Spring
 1. What do you love most about Spring? The longer days starting to set in, it is truly amazing what a difference more sunlight does for people.
2. If you’re lucky enough to have a Spring Break, what will you do to enjoy it?  I don't have a Spring break as such but I am going on my belated Honeymoon next week to Venice with my MR, so I'm sure we'll have fun! 
3. What is your favorite flower?  I really like tulips and I think hydrangeas are an underrated flower.
4. Do you have a garden?  If so, what do you grow?  Sadly not as we live in a first floor flat.
5. Share one thing that you hope to accomplish during Spring.  Lose at least 10lbs or so and do some scrap booking, I've been looking at our wedding photos a lot recently and seeing as our first anniversary is coming up it seems about time that I do something with our photos :)
6. Do you do Spring cleaning?  Not really.
7. What is your weather *really* like right now? {Just b/c it’s almost Spring, doesn’t mean that it feels like it for some of you.}  Well, the last couple of days have been pleasant but when I went into town this morning I still needed a scarf.
8. Share one photo that you've taken during the month of March. 
This is a chest of drawers my husband bought me for my 21st. We planned on decorating it then, but only got round to it last year. I took the photo this weekend seeing as I'd tidied the top of it for people coming round so I thought, perfect photo opportunity! (I've also used this photo for something else but will share a post about it in the coming weeks- ooooow cryptic I know haha) :)

9. What’s your favorite thing to do on a sunny afternoon?  I've not been to a beach in like 2 and a half years so it would be nice to spend a few hours on one. 
10. If you could spend the day doing anything in your city, what would you do? Walking to a place we've never been to and sitting in a nice beer garden sounds pretty good to me :)

Feeling positive

Sooooo...I've not really been spending as much time on here as I'd like but I feel like I'm starting to make some progress again *high five* anyone?? :)

I've had some back pain lately which was holding me back a bit and if I'm really honest with myself giving me an excuse not to go to the gym for a few days :-/ BUT it's been feeling a little better so I've started back at it again. I've also been swimming a couple of times too- I just love swimming!! Must be the piscean in me :) 

Work has been getting me down lately and stressing me out tbh and to make matters worse I was supposed to be doing a 7 day straight stretch starting last Thursday. Seriously there's nothing worse than needing a day off and not getting one (well there is, but y'know what I mean!) But luckily I did as one of the girls swapped a day with me so I had yesterday off. And boy am I glad I did, I had such a productive day! I got the flat in order, lay in the sunshine (from the comfort of my sofa-haha!) [sidenote: Isn't it amazing what a difference a bit of sunshine makes to your mood?!] Then I joined my friend at the gym and did an hour of cardio / weights, signed up for an abs class next Monday (I'll let you know how that goes!!) AND THEN we went swimming! (Not to mention all the walking too) Needless to say I'm a little sore today- but the good sore, where you feel like you've earned it! 

Here's some progress pics of my 2 mile times. It's coming down!  

I'm excited for the day I can run 3.11 miles/ 5 km! It's becoming a goal of mine and one I hope to be able to achieve by the Summer, I think. 

I've also finally got round to using myfitnesspal again and am loving it! Last time I used it I only ever did it on their website but this time I downloaded the app and (I'm aware I'm waaaayyyy behind with the cool kids here!) I am absolutely amazed by that barcode scanner thing, it takes all the effort out of looking stuff up! It seriously BLOWS- MY-MIND!! 

I've also given up crisps for Lent, seriously my biggest weakness BUT so far so good. This is the first thing I've ever given up for a predetermined length of time so I'm hoping I can prove to myself that I can do it! I'm also trying to reduce my fizzy drink intake, which is getting there too....What did everyone else give up for lent? How's it going? 

I think that me all caught up on what I've been doing exercise wise.

FMM- late as always...

1.  Does your blog have one overwhelming theme?
Me talking about wanting to lose weight; getting a little bit closer to my goals and then hitting a wall! But you know what they say "every little helps!" :)
2. How did you come up with the theme(s) for your blog? Was it intentional?
I've said before but my blog started as a blog for scrapbooking but now it's about my weightloss. It was kind of intentional as I wasn't scrapbooking anymore and was reading more and more weightloss blogs instead and just thought I want to get on board with that!
3.  Share something cool that has happened in your life as a result of blogging.
When I've hit a brick wall with my weightloss and read everyones blogs I feel remotivated. I think the thought that someone else is going through a similar journey and they might be looking to you for inspiration or motivation makes you feel somewhat more accountable- which  in my case can only be a good thing! 
4. How much time to do spend reading blogs everyday?
Not a lot..I keep meaning to spend more time doing it,time just keeps getting away from me :-/
5.  Do you blog on the weekends?
Only if I'm off work. I work some weekends and have noticed I don't tend to blog unless it's my days off.
6.  Do you keep track of your stats?  Do they matter to you?

*I've just realised this question is referring to blog stats-silly me!...I'll be honest I do like seeing that someone's checked out my posts, it encourages me*  First answer----->I did religiously when I was on my loosing streak.  Then I stopped filling in myfitnesspal and then the weight started creeping back on. I really need to keep myself in check by writing what I put in and what I work off, otherwise I get lazy. Hence, why I've started using it again :) I also have a graph of my weightloss (and unfortunate gains!) and my HCA keeps track of my waist measurements.
7. How do you decide how much to share about your personal life?

I thought about this a lot when I started blogging about my weight. Ultimately I've decided to focus on my weightloss and although there's certain things I've thought about talking about I'm not 100% comfortable to share them just now. 
8. Do you aspire to be a writer, or did blogging happen for some other reason?

9. As a blogger, do you think it’s more important to write for yourself, or for your readers?

I think it's got to be both. I write to help myself on my journey but hope that others get something from it too, like I do from so many of them.

10.  What kind of plans do you have for the future of your blog?
Just to spend more time on it! :)
